What is a SIRIM Malaysia permit?
Many regulated products, especially telecommunications and wireless equipment, cannot be imported or sold in Malaysia without SIRIM approval. A SIRIM permit application covers the approvals your product needs before it can enter the country: the import permit for each shipment, Type Approval (certification) for the product model, and the SIRIM label that shows the product is certified.
Applications must be made by a company registered in Malaysia. If your business is based overseas, Zirco Communication acts as your local applicant, so you don't need to set up a Malaysian entity of your own.
Not sure whether your product needs ST safety approval, Type Approval, or both? Read our SIRIM certification guide for importers.
Applying for SIRIM Malaysia from overseas
Most of our clients are manufacturers, brands and distributors based outside Malaysia. SIRIM Malaysia only accepts applications from a locally registered company, which is why foreign companies need a local applicant to register their products and apply for permits.
- No Malaysian company needed: we apply under our local registration on your behalf
- Handled remotely: send your product documents by email and we take care of the rest
- Clear communication in English with your team at every step, wherever you are
- Import and distribution support if you need a partner on the ground in Malaysia

SIRIM permit application FAQ
Who can apply for a SIRIM permit?
The application must be made by a company registered in Malaysia. Overseas manufacturers and brands usually appoint a local applicant, such as Zirco Communication, to apply on their behalf.
We are an overseas company. Can we register with SIRIM Malaysia?
Yes, through a local applicant. SIRIM Malaysia requires the applicant to be a Malaysian-registered company, so we register and apply for your products on your behalf. You keep ownership of your brand and products; we hold the local applicant role.
Does my product need SIRIM approval?
It depends on the product type. Telecommunications and wireless devices, and many electrical products, need approval before import or sale. Send us your product details and we will confirm what is required.
What is the difference between a SIRIM import permit and Type Approval?
Type Approval certifies a product model as meeting Malaysian standards. The import permit allows a specific shipment of regulated products into the country. Most products need both.
Can you also handle ST, KPDNHEP and customs?
Yes. We manage Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) electrical certification, KPDNHEP Certificate of Conformance, DagangNet registration and Royal Malaysian Customs classification as well.
